HIGHLIGHTS

With direct assistance from UNITE-LA and the LA COC offices, Apple LA hosted the John Lennon Education Tour bus for two days in LAUSD.  Here is the video outcome of this visit with HOllywood HIgh School Media & Technology small learning community students.

OBJECTIVES

College & Career Success Project:

The purpose of the College & Career Success [C&CS] Project is to improve secondary school success for students in the Los Angeles Unified School District [LAUSD].  The C&CS objectives are aligned with the efforts of nine small schools and small learning communities [SLC] to implement the SLC Attributes and the SLC Plans approved by LAUSD.  UNITE-LA places a Process Coach at each school who is responsible for identifying resources and supporting the progress of the schools towards measurable outcomes in these areas

  3. Accountability and distributed leadership

  4. Community and parental engagement

  5. Professional development

Commitment to Education System Reform:

UNITE-LA has worked carefully over the last five years to document the broad scope and magnitude of support that exists for systemic reform in Los Angeles, and our collaboration with LAUSD on reform strategies.  Listed below are other documents that outline joint commitments to this work:

  1. Memorandum of Understanding, Franklin High School and UNITE-LA [signed July 2008]; establishes collaborative relationship, including cost sharing

  2. Letter of Commitment, Los Angeles City Mayor’s Office & UNITE-LA [signed February 8, 2008 by former Deputy Mayor Ray Cortines]; establishes intent to share resources and align the efforts of The Partnership of Los Angeles Schools and the College & Career Success Schools

  3. Memorandum of Understanding, Superintendent Carmen Schroeder, LAUSD, Local District 5 and UNITE-LA [signed February 1, 2008]; establishes intent to service and support the College & Career Success Project at selected schools [Jefferson, Santee] through 2010.
