The Los Angeles Digital Equity Action League (LA DEAL) was selected to receive a Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Broadband Help Hub (BHH) technical assistance award to support five community broadband network projects in historically underserved areas of Los Angeles County. Projects include the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) in Pico Union, the City and School District of Lynwood Community Broadband Network, the City of Huntington Park Community Broadband Network, the Pacoima Digital Equity Project and the Antelope Valley Community Broadband Network. The partnership marks a pivotal milestone in LA DEAL’s mission to advance community-led broadband solutions—ensuring they truly reflect and serve the needs of local residents.
The LISC BHH will work closely with community leaders to guide the early planning of local broadband networks. Over the next few months, the process will include one-on-one interviews with community leaders in each of the five target areas, review of public mapping and broadband availability data to better understand existing infrastructure and service gaps, and follow-up conversations to dig deeper into the local context, challenges and opportunities.
LA DEAL and partners will receive a comprehensive set of findings, recommendations and data insights from the LISC BHH, laying the groundwork for the next phase of broadband implementation. Insights will inform more effective and inclusive solutions, from public infrastructure investments to local entrepreneurship and workforce development initiatives, aimed at expanding digital opportunity in historically underserved communities.
