Systems Change Spotlight: Opening Doors to Apprenticeships - A Guide for Nonprofits to Build and Support Career Pathways

In partnership with LAUNCH LA and the Southern California Apprenticeship Network, UNITE-LA led a four-part webinar series on apprenticeships. The webinars were designed to support small nonprofit organizations looking to engage in apprenticeships by providing them with necessary resources and tools.

The series provided an overview of what an apprenticeship is and its value to Angelenos looking to learn a skill or upskill for advancement opportunities in various industry sectors, while highlighting the vital role community-based organizations play in supporting employers through candidate matching, training coordination and program delivery. Participants learned effective recruitment strategies for sector-based apprenticeships and shared best practices on ensuring apprentice success. Participants also learned how to identify and connect to registered apprenticeships in L.A. County, including navigating the Division of Apprenticeship Standards website and accessing vetted programs across the region’s 19 community college districts. Lastly, partners from across the Los Angeles region, including the South Bay Workforce Investment Board, BRIC Foundation and Pasadena City College, shared industry-specific apprenticeship models, offering participants valuable insights and opportunities for networking and future collaboration.

Looking ahead, we will launch a CBO boot camp in May focused on providing technical support on how to establish apprenticeship programs. Please register here if your organization is interested.
