Since 2019, UNITE-LA has led a regional effort to redesign the student transfer ecosystem, partnering with community colleges, CSU campuses and philanthropy to address policies, practices and institutional cultures that hinder degree completion. This work evolved into a student-centered initiative anchored by CSU Dominguez Hills and Cal Poly Pomona.
Using institutional data and student testimony, cross-functional campus teams—including faculty, admissions, academic affairs and student services—identified root causes of transfer barriers such as confusing policies, advising gaps and financial and logistical challenges, then piloted reforms to address them. The resulting Student Transfer Redesign Report, published in 2025, presents a shared roadmap for aligning policy and practice across institutions, demonstrating how data-informed, student-responsive systems change can create clearer, more equitable transfer pathways and improve degree completion outcomes.
