UNITE-LA volunteers joined LAUSD last month in assisting an estimated 1,000 South L.A. high school seniors build their pathway to a brighter future by attending the FAFSA and CADAA fair at L.A. Harbor College.
Securing financial aid is particularly critical right now, as many families are currently recovering from the recent fires in Los Angeles. President of UNITE-LA, Alysia Bell, joined LAUSD Superintendent and UNITE-LA board member, Alberto M. Carvalho, for the L.A. Cash for College program, providing remarks and instruction as to how students could win scholarships. UNITE-LA presented five, $500 scholarships to students who completed their FAFSAs/CADAAs during the event, and additional $1,000 scholarships will be awarded in the spring.
