UNITE-LA has always existed to advance equitable economic mobility – with a laser focus on individuals from historically marginalized communities. From wildfires to a new federal administration in early 2025, it is clear our community engagement and collaboration with partners is more important than ever.

UNITE-LA proudly stands alongside you as we deepen our collective commitment to our community – especially for those with the most barriers. In the continued spirit of sharing critical resources from our partners, we will regularly update this webpage as additional resources become available. As well, if you have resources you would like to include here, please reach out to [email protected].

Wildfire-Related Resources

Federal-Related Resources

As many of you know, CalFresh recipients will be experiencing a delay in receiving their November CalFresh benefits as a result of the federal government shutdown. We would like to share this list of helpful resources provided by our partner, Amplifi, formerly Imagine LA. Please feel free to share these resources with those who are or may be impacted.

This link to find your nearest food bank is the most critical.

Additional details and resources are included below. We will provide updated information as it becomes available.

Impacts of Federal Government Shutdown:

  • CalFresh benefits will be delayed for the month of November.

  • CalFresh recipients will receive notification from the State informing them that November benefits will be delayed. Receiving such a notice does not mean that their case is terminated or that they are no longer eligible for benefits.

  • It is important to encourage CalFresh recipients to continue complying with all reporting requirements to ensure their benefits are issued promptly once they become available.

  • Not impacted at this time are CalWORKs, General Relief, Medi-Cal, IHSS and most subsidized child care programs. They are all operating as normal and are not currently impacted by the federal government shutdown.

Food Resources:

  • There is a network of food pantries across the County that includes 940 sites coordinated by the L.A. Regional Food Bank.

  • L.A. County is increasing funding to the L.A. Regional Food Bank network to increase the amount of food available. The increased supply will be available around Oct. 31 and continue at least through the month of November.

  • You may have heard that the National Guard is being deployed to local food pantries. They will not be there in any type of law enforcement capacity. They are being deployed as volunteers to make sure there are enough staff on-hand to provide food to people quickly and efficiently. They were similarly deployed during COVID as volunteers to help with food distribution.

  • Additional resources for youth, teens and seniors:

    • If you are over the age of 60, you may be eligible for a free meal at your local senior center. For more information, call 1-800-510-2020.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC):

  • All California WIC agencies are currently operational.

  • Government employees who are furloughed/working without pay may qualify for WIC if they are pregnant or have a child under the age of 5, and WIC may be a good option to help with grocery costs, even if it is only temporary.

  • Applying for WIC is simple and can be done by phone. Apply at startwic.org or text “APPLY” to 91997.

  • To find a WIC location near you, as well as days and hours of operation, click here.
