In 2024, UNITE-LA played a key role in shaping and advancing the Governor’s Master Plan for Career Education. As the convener of the L.A. Region K-16 Collaborative, UNITE-LA co-hosted the L.A./O.C. Regional Convening with the Governor’s Office and WestEd, where more than 100 leaders identified barriers to career pathways and explored solutions in areas such as access, affordability and work-based learning.
Following the convening, UNITE-LA facilitated targeted discussions with the Los Angeles Community College District and statewide business leaders to align education with workforce needs, ensuring expanded work-based learning opportunities are integrated into the plan. Additionally, UNITE-LA partnered with key organizations to form a coalition representing education and workforce experts, and submitted a support letter to the Governor to amplify key concepts of the plan.
As UNITE-LA remains dedicated to regional workforce alignment and advocating for policies that create opportunities for high-wage careers, we were pleased to see recommended concepts reflected in the framework released by the Governor in mid-December. Per our recommendations and our partners’ recommendations, the framework identifies four central areas for the state to actively build out, including through budget, legislative and policy investments. The state will develop statewide and regional coordinating bodies to develop and manage all plan recommendations.
