
Policy Analyst
[email protected]Ashley Álvarez joined UNITE-LA in January 2026 as a Policy Analyst. In her role, she supports UNITE-LA's policy priorities and advocacy efforts across multiple portfolios to advance access and opportunities for children and families. She brings a particular expertise and passion for early childhood and TK-12 education.
Álvarez has previous experience with California-based and national government, nonprofit and think tank organizations. Prior to joining UNITE-LA, she was a Fellow with the Better Life Lab at New America, where she engaged in research and reporting on the country's care infrastructure. She also has experience in federal government, having served during the 46th Presidential Administration under the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy and Early Learning at the U.S. Department of Education and the Assistant Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Raised in South Central Los Angeles, Álvarez earned her M.Ed. in Education Policy and Analysis with a concentration in Early Childhood at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She earned her B.A. in Sociology and Educational Studies from Harvard College.
