Centering Youth Voice to Amplify Data-Driven Continuous Improvement in L.A. County’s Child Welfare System

In partnership with the OYC, UNITE‑LA designed participatory data trainings with foster youth leaders and Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Youth Engagement Section staff.

These trainings built shared capacity to interpret data, examine systemic challenges and develop actionable, youth‑informed recommendations. Together, foster youth and system leaders will identify priority indicators for five outcome domains defined by youth: housing, mental health, economic mobility, education and relationships. The goal is to establish metrics that matter to young people and collect data that will help DCFS identify transition gaps, target supports earlier and track whether system responses are improving stability and outcomes for transition-age foster youth.
