UNITE-LA Today: Data to Better Understand Pay Discrimination

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission completed its first-ever pay data collection a few years ago (interrupted by the Trump administration, and then restarted by court order) to aid in understanding and battling pay discrimination. UNITE-LA’s Dr. Lisa Catanzarite, Vice President, Research and Evaluation, has been serving for the past 18 months on an Expert Panel of the National Academies of Science Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) Committee on National Statistics (CNSTAT) charged with investigating the quality of the data and making recommendations to improve future pay data collections in order to inform EEOC investigations as well as enable effective usage of the data for academic research and employer self-assessment. Dr. Catanzarite and team recently completed the report, held private briefings with the EEOC, and held a public briefing and several congressional briefings.
