In her current role, she leads efforts to activate and cultivate a robust statewide network of business leaders committed to advancing cradle-through-career education and workforce equity.
Since joining the team, Sakai-Gonzalez has built and mobilized an engaged network of more than 40 business partnerships—including affinity chambers and trade associations—working to ensure California’s talent pipeline is inclusive, well-supported and aligned with employer needs. Through these partnerships, she has created meaningful opportunities for the business community to collaborate with diverse stakeholders on policy, systems change and direct service efforts that remove barriers and expand opportunity for underrepresented populations.
Prior to UNITE-LA, Sakai-Gonzalez served for 15 years at the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce as Director of Global Trade & Foreign Investment, where she led business development, advocacy and program strategies to support international expansion. She was named Global Trade Catalyst of the Year in 2017 and honored by the Mayor’s Office of International Trade for her leadership. Earlier in her career, Sakai-Gonzalez was a PreK–12 educator in underserved communities and was awarded the Southern California Edison Educators for Tomorrow Award in 2004—a recognition that continues to inspire her work today.
