Having first been justice-involved at the age of 13, Barrera came to join UNITE-LA through the C.O.R.E. Internship Program, a program aimed at providing paid career exploration and on-the-job work experience to young adults with a history of criminal justice involvement. Barrera utilizes her own lived experience to better understand the unique needs of opportunity youth and to uplift and provide underserved students access to paid internships and employment opportunities in the tech sector. Having taken a less traditional route, she understands the crucial need for equitable access to high-growth and high-wage paying jobs.
Most of Barrera’s free time is spent playing football and training her newest fur baby, a stubborn German Shepherd puppy named Rocky.
