May saw our L.A. Cash for College (CFC) team complete its 19th year of the L.A. Cash for College program. From October to May, we hosted 35 workshops and panels that focused on college preparedness. The team concluded the CFC season with our second scholarship event (Dollars for Scholars), where more than $22,000 in scholarships and prizes was awarded for CFC workshop attendees. In total, we served a total of 1,677 students, parents and educators and awarded more than 30 scholarships.
L.A. Cash for College would not be possible today if it were not for one of California's most vocal advocates for higher education – and our beloved colleague and friend, Dr. Alma Salazar. And UNITE-LA could think of no better way to honor Dr. Salazar, who passed away last year, than to establish a scholarship fund in her name. The Dr. Alma Salazar scholarship awards were made available to L.A. Cash for College attendees. A very special thank you to all our friends and partners who contributed to the Dr. Alma Salazar Scholarship Fund.
