On Tuesday, Jan. 26 and Wednesday, Jan. 27, UNITE-LA partnered with the Mayor’s Office, L.A. Unified and the California Community Colleges’ Health Workforce Initiative to host a third successful School Nurse Hiring event. Conducted virtually for the first time due to the pandemic, the hiring event still retained key elements of one-on-one interviews, salary and benefits discussion room, and interactions with nursing services staff to learn more about the role. Among 72 candidates interviewed, 51 were offered the position with 22 candidates accepting on the spot. L.A. Unified reported that these collaborative events have been instrumental in helping meet their goal of having at least one school nurse on each campus and recruit a more diverse pool of candidates. This partnership is part of UNITE-LA’s Health Care Pathways efforts to work with partners to ensure our region’s health care employers have access to a diverse, skilled workforce to meet critical shortages.
