Systems Change Highlights: LA DEAL Launches Data Dashboard and Convenes Municipal Leaders in Southeast Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Digital Equity Action League (LA DEAL) continues to drive progress in Los Angeles County by addressing digital equity challenges. To support this effort, we partnered with LAEDC’s Institute of Applied Economics (IAE) to develop a comprehensive data portal, dashboard and heatmap, accessible via ArcGIS Dashboards. The dashboard provides key metrics for tracking digital equity and broadband adoption across the county. Our goal is to empower municipal leaders to use the data dashboard for broadband policy development and digital divide-focused projects.

Additionally, LA DEAL hosted the SELA Community Broadband Workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024. The workshop was convened by the City of Huntington Park and the Community Broadband Network of Los Angeles (CBLA)—a partnership between LA DEAL and the Digital Equity Los Angeles Coalition (DELA), supported by the CCF Digital Equity Initiative.

The SELA Community Broadband Workshop convening brought together more than 50 stakeholders and municipal leaders from throughout the region to brainstorm and develop sustainable Community Broadband Network solutions, ensuring that fast, reliable and affordable internet access is available to all SELA residents and businesses.

The event was co-sponsored by DELA, the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC), UNITE-LA, County Supervisor Janice Hahn, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), the Institute for Local Self-Reliance (ISLR), the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), the Lynwood Unified School District (LUSD) and the cities of Maywood, Bell, South Gate, Bell Gardens, Compton and Carson.
