Dr. Lisa Catanzarite, Vice President of Research and Evaluation, oversees research, evaluation and strategic learning activities in addition to co-leading our anti-racism work.

Prior to joining UNITE-LA, Dr. Catanzarite spent two decades in academia as a professor and Senior Research Sociologist at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and Washington State University. Dr. Catanzarite’s published peer-reviewed research that centers on labor markets, education, gender, race/ethnicity, immigration and poverty. In addition to her academic background, Dr. Catanzarite has held private sector research and administrative positions in San Diego and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Recent professional service includes National Academy of Sciences, , UNIDOS-US Advisory Group for Latina Wealth Project, California Department of Education State Team for Social and Emotional Learning and University of Southern California Sol Price Center Steering Committee for Neighborhood Data for Social Change. Dr. Catanzarite completed a bachelor’s degree in History, master’s degrees in Education and Sociology and a Ph.D. in Sociology at Stanford University. Additionally, she completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Sociology at UCLA and holds a certificate in Leadership in an Age of Disruption from California State University Northridge and a fellowship with the Race Equity Action Institute.

Outside of work, Dr. Catanzarite enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, music, going to the beach and being outdoors.
