Partner Spotlight: Edison International

UNITE-LA is proud to highlight Southern California Edison (SCE) and celebrate the continued leadership of its parent company, Edison International, in advancing equitable cleantech career pathways across Los Angeles.

Edison International has been a valued partner in supporting UNITE-LA’s LA Regional Cleantech Career Academy (Academy). Through its recent grant investment, the company is helping expand access to high-quality clean energy career pathways for young adults across the region. Beyond financial support, Edison’s commitment is reflected in consistent employee engagement as career mentors — demonstrating a strong dedication to participant success.

SCE, the largest subsidiary of Edison International, serves more than 15 million people across approximately 50,000 square miles in Southern California. As a leading electric utility provider, SCE plays a critical role in powering communities, advancing sustainability and supporting the region’s clean energy transition.

Over the past year, SCE has deepened its engagement with UNITE-LA through a multi-layered partnership model that includes funding support, student site visits, participation in career fairs, speaking engagements at Academy graduations and expanded collaboration across cleantech and tech pathway programs. This hands-on involvement provides students with mentorship, industry exposure and direct connections to career opportunities.

We are especially grateful for the leadership of Tara L. Becnel, senior manager in customer service operations at SCE and a member of the UNITE-LA Board of Directors. Most recently, Tara addressed Academy graduates at their December ceremony, sharing her professional journey and offering encouragement as students prepare to enter the workforce. Her leadership exemplifies SCE’s commitment to building a more inclusive clean energy workforce.

Looking ahead, UNITE-LA is excited to continue strengthening this collaboration by promoting SCE’s Edison Scholars Program, celebrating two student interns who will join SCE this summer and expanding work-based learning opportunities for program participants.
