This month’s partner spotlight belongs to the Foundation for the Los Angeles Community Colleges with a huge thank you to Kelly King (Executive Director of the Foundation and Chief Advancement Officer for the District) for graciously organizing and sponsoring the Supporting L.A.'s Parenting College Students event held at L.A. Valley College’s Family Resource Center in May.
Additionally, we were honored to have Dr. Francisco Rodriguez, LACCD Chancellor and UNITE-LA Board Chair, champion our research and speak about the importance of the findings for student equity.
This event formally launched UNITE-LA’s new research report, Empowering L.A. Parenting Students for College Success, illuminating parenting student demographics, their representation at L.A. County’s Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs), existing IHE supports, and the challenges faced both by parenting students and the institutions that serve them. The event was Kelly’s brainchild, and she shepherded it (and folks from four different organizations) from concept to completion! UNITE-LA is so grateful for our continuing partnership with consummate leader Kelly King, LACCD and its Foundation, which continues to remove barriers to education for community college students!
