UNITE-LA Today: Reopening Child Care Is Critical to a Post Pandemic World

UNITE-LA's President & CEO, David Rattray, participated in the California Senate Special Committee on Pandemic Emergency Response on Feb. 17. The hearing examined the weaknesses in California’s child care system that the COVID-19 pandemic exposed and exacerbated. Now, as we begin to turn the corner on the year-long pandemic response, the State and its workers and families will rely on expanded capacity of child care providers to support the reopening of schools and the economy this year. The goal of the hearing was to better understand and inform decisions that will be made as part of the State budget process, allocating additional federal funds, and enacting policies to continue to sustain, expand and support the state’s child care infrastructure. David addressed the crucial role that high-quality and accessible child care will play in the post-pandemic economic recovery.
