UNITE-LA recently launched its 2026 Health Sector Collaborative, bringing together 32 partners across education, workforce and industry to strengthen health care career pathways across Los Angeles County. As demand for health care talent continues to grow, the Collaborative serves as a forum for partners to align strategies, address workforce challenges and expand access to high-quality, career-connected opportunities. Through stronger coordination across systems, the initiative aims to help meet regional workforce needs while creating more equitable pathways into health care careers.
The convening featured insights from the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), the nation’s largest community college district, serving more than 215,000 students across nine colleges. Partners explored how LACCD is advancing coordinated, equity-focused health care pathways aligned to regional labor market demand, including stackable training models that allow students to progress from short-term certificates to associate and bachelor’s degrees in high-demand fields such as medical assisting, radiologic technology and biotechnology.
Discussion also highlighted the importance of expanding access through noncredit and English Language Learner pathways, particularly for careers such as community health worker, certified nursing assistant (CNA) and emergency medical technician (EMT). Participants explored solutions to clinical placement challenges; investments in facilities and program infrastructure; and the role of data and system alignment in scaling impact. Employer partnerships remain central to this work, helping ensure programs are responsive to workforce needs and producing strong outcomes for students.
