Last month, the Los Angeles Digital Equity Action League (LA DEAL), convened by UNITE-LA and the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC), hosted a Broadband Leaders convening for 10 municipal leaders from across L.A. County, providing a technical training session on permitting through the California Emerging Technology Fund (CETF) Learning Community. This three-hour session was designed for municipal officials—including assistant city managers, directors of public works and directors of community development—to develop best practices for broadband permitting.
The LA DEAL team is actively working to elevate California policies that support the expansion of high-speed internet infrastructure in cities across the state. Local municipal leaders play a critical role in shaping regulatory frameworks that make it easier and more efficient for smaller internet service providers to operate in their communities. The goal is to streamline processes that facilitate additional broadband infrastructure in local communities—supporting economic mobility, expanding access across Los Angeles County and ultimately lowering internet costs for all Angelenos.
