2020 Year in Review: UNITE-LA Policy Presence Makes Itself Known

Working with partners and recognizing an even greater need for policy efforts, we escalated our work in 2020. UNITE-LA brought together key leaders and experts to discuss COVID-19's impact on our learners and the workforce of tomorrow. On Oct. 14, we invited candidates for LAUSD District 7 and L.A. County Supervisorial District 2 to address early childhood education and how best to support L.A.'s most vulnerable children, particularly as we see the effects of COVID-19 on child care. Sonia Campos-Rivera, UNITE-LA's VP of Policy & Public Affairs, published an OpEd on Paid Family Leave this year in L.A. Parent Magazine. Public News Service also covered what we had to say on the issue. On Oct. 27, our state's policy and budget experts addressed the future of CA's fiscal outlook. We culminated the year by partnering with the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and LA-Tech.org on a Dec. 3 webinar featuring CA Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon who addressed California's efforts to dismantle racial systemic barriers and shared next steps to address the impacts that COVID-19 has had on not only our economy but also our most vulnerable families in CA.
