On Dec. 17, colleagues from the LA Regional Cleantech Career Academy (Academy) were invited to join the Southern California Regional Energy Network's (SoCalREN) Regional Workforce Alliance meeting in Burbank, themed "SoCal’s Talent Pipeline: Converting Entertainment Skill Sets into Energy Sector Opportunities." The event served as an opportunity to spotlight the goals of the Academy and connect with leaders from the entertainment industry, higher education and the clean energy sector, including leaders from Woodbury University.
The program featured a lineup of leaders and panelists, including Minh Le, general manager of Energy and Environmental Services for Los Angeles County, Kent Hayward of California State University, Long Beach, DeJon Ellis Jr. of IATSE Local 80, Adam Ereth of Sustainable Production for Entertainment (SPEC) and Ereth Environmental and Justin Broederdorf of Sony Pictures Entertainment, who discussed how transferable skills can power the region's growing clean energy workforce. The event wrapped up with an insightful tour of Woodbury University's L.A. Times Solar House, L.A.'s first 3D-printed net-zero home and a Department of Energy Solar Decathlon standout, highlighting the innovation driving the future of clean energy careers.
