UNITE-LA Today: Celebrating the Next Generation of Cleantech Leaders

On Dec. 11, UNITE-LA's Geraldine Contreras-Jaimerena, Daniel De La Luz and Pam Williams attended the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) Cleantech Academy fall 2025 graduation ceremony, held at the Los Angeles Kretz Innovation Campus. The event was an opportunity for UNITE-LA and LADWP to celebrate six Cleantech alumnae, Andrea Rosas (Spring 2025), Emily Wang (Spring 2025), Camrien Cooper (Fall 2024), Heather Middleton-Fields (Fall 2024), Jennifer Gutierrez (Spring 2023) and Miho Tago (Fall 2023), who completed their 10-week summer internship program.

During the fall internship program, the six interns were placed across various divisions within LADWP including information technology services, power new business and electrification, water distribution and water quality. This year also included two new roles within the WETS Division, engineering geologist intern and an architecture intern. With guidance from their mentors, each intern worked on meaningful projects supporting LADWP's mission of providing clean and reliable water to Angelenos. At the graduation event, interns presented their work, which included conducting water quality testing to measure geosmin and methyl-isoborneol (MIB), as well as collecting and analyzing soil samples using augers and split spoon samplers. This event recognized the interns' accomplishments and highlighted UNITE-LA and LADWP's shared commitment to provide hands-on experience in clean energy, water management and public service.
