In March, UNITE-LA collaborated with leaders from UTLA and L.A. Unified School District to apply for a 2023 California Community Schools Partnership Program Implementation Grant, which would provide an additional $33.4 million to support Cohort 4 community schools over five years. The L.A. Unified Community Schools Steering Committee selected the 21 new schools making up Cohort 4 in February.
If all schools (21 Cohort 4 schools, plus three schools from previous cohorts not funded through previous CCSPP grants) were funded in this application, L.A. Unified would receive $33.4 million over the five-year period. CCSPP funding would provide access to new resources, including:
- College-readiness programs
- Two new wellness centers
- Two high school work-based learning coordinators
- Discretionary contract funds for extended learning opportunity or enrichment
- Collaborative planning time and leadership trainings
CDE will announce grantees in May, following State Board of Education approval.
