At our second quarter staff retreat, UNITE-LA team members visited Destination Crenshaw and the surrounding area.

Throughout the day, staff were able to hear from UNITE-LA Board Member and Destination Crenshaw President and CEO, Jason Foster, about the importance of Destination Crenshaw’s project as a model for cultural permanence and community repair through public art and social justice. Foster also shared a presentation of Destination Crenshaw’s strategic plan as a model for reparative development and public art programming that produces comprehensive solutions to address multiple challenges in underserved communities. Later, the team visited Sankofa Park to experience the intergenerational approach to community wellness and resilience that uses South Los Angeles’s historical context to guide Destination Crenshaw’s work. After lunch, the team explored the Crenshaw Corridor, taking in additional art installations, murals and sites of importance in the historic area.
