UNITE-LA Today: Dismantling of the U.S. Department of Education

Last month, UNITE-LA went on record to vehemently oppose the dismantling of the U.S. Department of Education. This open letter lays out the potential, devastating consequences for educational access, college affordability, workforce development and, ultimately, the economic mobility of individuals (especially those from historically underserved communities) if the current federal administration dismantles the U.S. Department of Education. Please share this letter as you see fit.

If you’d like to join UNITE-LA in opposing this potential action, please reach out so we can collaborate in amplifying our voices on this critical issue.

UNITE-LA President Alysia Bell most recently commented on the situation when Department of Education layoffs began, noting, “Department of Education closures and cuts are devastating for students – especially those with barriers to high-mobility careers. Education, workforce development and economic development are three legs of the same stool. Our youth are the rising workforce. Education is a lifeline, not a budget line.”
