Last month, UNITE-LA, in partnership with Valley Industry and Commerce Association (VICA) and the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership, hosted a virtual Education Means Business webinar with California's leading experts on the state budget: State Senator Anthony Portantino, Chair of the Appropriations Committee, and Jason Sisney, Budget Director for Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas.

Speakers discussed the state's potential impacts given our economic climate and the Governor's plans to close $8 billion while avoiding impacts to existing school districts and community college district budgets. Gov. Newsom and the administration are projecting general fund deficits averaging about $30 billion annually in the three years after 2024-25.
