UNITE-LA completed its second Real World of STEAM cohort with 68 registered youth in partnership with L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti's Hire LA's Youth initiative supporting youth, ages 16-24, enrolled in paid career awareness and exploration programs through local YouthSource Centers, including Para Los Niños and UCLA.
The goal is to increase awareness, foster interest and provide career-readiness resources for youth interested in STEAM careers.
The recent programming featured speakers in bioscience and technology pathways, who shared with our youth labor market information and educational pathways/certifications and provided youth with continued professional development skill sets. We hosted speakers from local L.A. area bioscience leading companies, like Amgen and Grifols, and from technology startups like Launchmaps, who shared with youth software development frameworks.
Additional programming included industry professionals in the engineering, digital media arts and advanced manufacturing pathways. We will launch another cohort in May 2021.
