On Aug. 15, the LA DEAL team participated in the City of Palmdale's Digital Access Fair designed to empower families with children in school.
This event served 300 South Antelope Valley Emergency Services (SAVES) community families, primarily low-income and disadvantaged households, who received free laptops from the City of Palmdale, along with low-cost internet offers through our partnership with the California Emerging Technology Fund (CETF). The fair also included tables hosted by local organizations to share digital equity programs, like WeCanCode, as well as other services to support families and children throughout the school year. The laptops were secured through the Homeboy Electronics Social Enterprise. Both UNITE-LA's Liliana Aide Monge, director, Digital Equity, and Joel Martin, project manager, Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC), are bilingual and were able to provide support to approximately 75 percent of the Spanish speaking families who attended.
