Last month, the City of Los Angeles Economic & Workforce Development Department (EWDD) and the L.A. Opportunity Youth Collaborative (OYC) held the third Horizons 32K Stewardship Board meeting.
During this meeting, we introduced the Horizons 32K Youth Advisory Council, a panel of young adults with lived experience who serve alongside public workforce and education leaders to inform the ongoing strategy and implementation of Horizons 32K. The committee agreed on four key impact initiatives to drive year one efforts to reduce youth disconnection: college bridging; earn-and-learn pathways to employment; mentoring; and holistic support. Additionally, we will address critical issues such as chronic absenteeism, persistence, data and policy within these strategies. Our upcoming efforts will focus on rolling out these initiatives, defining roles and identifying members and leads for specific strategies and actions. This structure will continue to evolve as we identify opportunities and stakeholders essential for effective planning, adoption and implementation. For more information, please contact Amber Chatman.
