UNITE-LA Today: L.A. City Budget Concerns

UNITE-LA recently submitted public comment in response to Mayor Karen Bass’ proposed FY 2024–25 budget, which includes the consolidation of the Economic and Workforce Development Department (EWDD) and the Youth Development Department (YDD) into a new entity: the City Infrastructure for Families Department (CIFD).

While we recognize the urgency of addressing the City’s $1 billion budget shortfall, we joined other stakeholders in urging the City Council to pause and allow additional time and analysis before moving forward with this significant restructuring. CIFD has now been tasked with submitting a detailed implementation plan by July 15, outlining how the proposed consolidation will occur without disruption to essential youth services. This plan must include input from stakeholders and provide recommendations that prioritize continuity, community trust and the City’s long-standing youth development goals.
