UNITE-LA Today: LA DEAL Update

The Los Angeles Digital Equity Action League (LA DEAL), in partnership with Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) and the Digital Equity LA (DELA) Coalition, held a Community Broadband Workgroup on May 9 to plan a free pilot broadband network serving approximately 250 residents and workers near the Coalition for Human Immigration Rights Los Angeles’ (CHIRLA) headquarters in Pico Union.

The CHIRLA pilot Community Network will provide high-speed internet at no cost to local businesses and residents, and will serve as the foundation for a larger, community-wide broadband network in the coming months. As part of the planning process, the Community Broadband Workshop will engage LAUSD to identify K–12 students in the area who could benefit from phase two of the CHIRLA community Wi-Fi network.
