UNITE-LA Today: Pathways to Economic Prosperity

At the end of August, we were thrilled to have Daisy Gonzales, Ph.D., Acting Chancellor, California Community Colleges (CCC), join us for the policy webinar, “Pathways to Economic Prosperity: How CA Community Colleges Improve Student Success.” She discussed how she is leveraging her experience to identify effective, equitable and culturally responsive strategies to support students and help prepare them for a rapidly changing economy. Thanks to California’s historic 2021-22 budget, where investments were allocated to systems and programs that promise to help build pathways to economic prosperity for youth and their families, Dr. Gonzales has the opportunity to lead the implementation of these investments for CCC. Dr. Gonzales is a former foster youth and among the first in her family to attend college. She began her career as a dual-immersion teacher and left the classroom for a career in fiscal policy and legislation. We were also grateful to the Chancellor of the Los Angeles Community College District, Francisco C. Rodriguez, Ph.D., who introduced Dr. Gonzales at the webinar.
