UNITE-LA Today: Reducing the Digital Divide

On Feb. 12, UNITE-LA's Director of Digital Equity, Liliana Aide Monge, provided testimony at an in-person hearing of the California Public Utilities Commission regarding the proposed merger between Charter Communications and Cox Communications.

During her remarks, Liliana raised concerns about limited broadband competition across Los Angeles, noting that reduced competition can strengthen pricing power among incumbent providers. She emphasized that a merger of two major companies could further limit affordable access for communities already facing digital barriers. Liliana also advocated for a strong community benefits agreement, which could be negotiated through UNITE-LA's partner, California Emerging Technology Fund, to ensure that any approved transaction delivers measurable benefits for underserved communities.
