UNITE-LA Today: Strengthening Cross-Sector Leadership

UNITE-LA's Carrie Lemmon, Senior Vice President, Systems Change Strategy, recently joined the Becky Morgan Steward Leadership Program, a leadership initiative led by California Forward for emerging and mid-career leaders across the state, to facilitate a virtual session on systems change.

The program brings together local leaders to deepen their understanding of regional and statewide policy issues while strengthening skills in stewardship, collaboration and cross-sector leadership.

Drawing on UNITE-LA’s role as an education-to-career intermediary, the session explored how systemic inequities are shaped by structures and design—not individual circumstances—and how leaders can apply systems thinking to advance more equitable outcomes. Using examples from postsecondary access and success, the discussion highlighted the importance of addressing root causes, building trust across stakeholders and advancing multiple strategies simultaneously to drive lasting change.

UNITE-LA's participation reflects its broader commitment to strengthening systems that support equitable access to education and career opportunities across California. You can view her presentation here.
