UNITE-LA Today: Strengthening Youth Apprenticeship Pathways in California

In June, UNITE-LA's Edgar Castillo testified before the Senate Labor, Public Employment and Retirement Committee in support of AB 805, legislation that would establish the Career Apprenticeship Bridge (CAB) Program and advance a key recommendation from the California Youth Apprenticeship Committee’s final report.

As a co-sponsor alongside the California Opportunity Youth Network (COYN), Alliance of Boys and Men of Color (ABMoC) and Youth Will, UNITE-LA supports the CAB Program as a critical step toward strengthening alignment across education, workforce and apprenticeship systems while expanding access to high-quality career pathways for young people.

Following the hearing, AB 805 successfully passed out of committee and now moves to the Appropriations Committee. This milestone reflects strong momentum behind efforts to build a more coordinated and inclusive youth apprenticeship system in California.
