UNITE-LA recently provided a brief regarding SB 731, introduced by Sen. Maria Elena Durazo, which would implement a comprehensive system to prospectively and retroactively seal conviction and arrest records. Currently, California loses $20 billion from the state economy because of policies that disenfranchise potential workers with past conviction records. To learn more about this important piece of legislation and the impact to our economies, please read the report, Getting Back to Work: Revamping the Economy by Removing Past Records, authored by UNITE-LA and Californians for Safety and Justice.
