UNITE-LA and the L.A. Opportunity Youth Collaborative (OYC) applaud L.A. County’s new Department of Economic Opportunity for their recent enhancements to its Youth@Work program, which provides paid work experiences to 10,000 youth each year. Starting in July, the County will expand youths' eligible wages in the program from $1,800 to $2,566 and bolster case management and other supports for the program by 33 percent. The OYC was key in advocating for these changes to increase the capacity of the program to serve youth with the greatest barriers to employment, including foster, justice-involved and homeless youth.
