UNITE-LA Today: Policy Team Hits the Road

The UNITE-LA Policy team spent a good part of September meeting with elected officials from the L.A. state delegation and key committee members. Doing so provided UNITE-LA the chance to showcase our Cradle-to-Career Policy Priorities that were unveiled this past spring. UNITE-LA President, Alysia Bell; Senior Vice President of Education Policy and Public Affairs, Sonia Campos-Rivera; and Policy Manager, AJ Lucas, connected with Sen. Maria Elena Durazo (SD 24 - Los Angeles) and Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (AD 9 - Sacramento), who chairs the Assembly Budget Sub Committee on Education Finance. UNITE-LA has supported and even co-sponsored legislation authored by both members, such as SB 951 (Paid Family Leave) and AB 1746 (Cal Grant Reform). Additionally, they met with newly elected Assemblymember Mike Fong (AD 49 - Los Angeles) who serves in the Assembly Appropriations committee and also shares UNITE-LA’s vision of increasing student access to higher education and expanding workforce training. We are proud of our representatives leading strong policies that are creating positive changes in our community, and we look forward to continuing to support them in the next legislative cycle.
