In July, UNITE-LA's Humberto Estratalan, Director of Public Policy, and Adam Gottlieb, Director of Postsecondary Strategy and Policy, spent time in Sacramento for UNITE-LA's second advocacy trip of 2023.

On Aug. 1, UNITE-LA was pleased to co-host a Regional Energy Policy Convening, in partnership with CA FWD, focused on the opportunities, barriers and resources needed to make energy independence and reliability a reality.

We are so pleased to share that, thanks to efforts from the Linked Learning Alliance, UNITE-LA and several other partners, this year's state budget will include full funding for the Golden State Pathways Program, which works to connect our education and workforce systems.

As part of our work with the ACCE Foundation, the National Strategic Partnerships team helps plan and execute a yearly Fellowship.

Last month, UNITE-LA and their partners from WestEd met with nearly a dozen Cal State Dominguez Hills student services staff and administrators for a half-day training to explore how they might redesign the transfer student experience.

UNITE-LA presented the latest information related to Equitable Broadband Access to the Westside Council of Chambers (WC3) Board in July.

Our 25th anniversary event, Celebrating the Future of Collaboration: A Civic Symposium to Dream of What Is Possible in the Next 25 Years, is fast approaching!

UNITE-LA played a crucial role in passing Senate Bill 1143 (Liu), leading to the establishment of the California Community College (CCC) Student Taskforce (SSTF). UNITE-LA advocated for an outcomes-based funding formula, motivating colleges to boost completion rates for students of color! Thanks to the taskforce’s work, we now have the CCC Student Success Scorecard and Associate Degree Transfer pathways.

This month, UNITE-LA is shining a bright light on our longtime partners at the Los Angeles Economic & Workforce Development Department (EWDD). In 2013, the Los Angeles Mayor and L.A. City Council launched EWDD as a modern, more efficient way for people to do business in the City of Los Angeles and to create more economically vibrant neighborhoods. (Prior to July 2013, EWDD's workforce and business functions were part of the city's Community Development Department.)

Led by Carolyn Hull, General Manager, EWDD provides a broad range of programs including business support, employment and youth development. These programs help grow and improve L.A.'s economy while building a well-trained, job-ready workforce. From Hire LA's Youth to South L.A. Scholars to L.A. Cash for College, their support is invaluable to not only UNITE-LA, but also to the youth we serve!
